Why standards slip as a business adds branches
Standards slip in multi-branch businesses because checks are inconsistent, evidence is scattered and findings are not followed up. Seeing every location against the same standard needs shared checklists, comparable results, photo evidence and corrective tasks with owners. That is the problem Kontrolvar is built for.

With one location, the owner is the standard. They walk the floor, notice the price label that fell off and fix it before lunch. With ten or fifty branches, nobody can walk every floor, and the standard starts to depend on who happens to be on shift. This is the problem Kontrolvar is built around.
How standards drift
Drift rarely comes from one big failure. It comes from small gaps that compound:
- Different checks in different places. One area manager uses a printed checklist, another a spreadsheet, a third relies on memory. The same branch can pass one review and fail another.
- Evidence that disappears. A photo of the broken fridge lives on someone’s phone. A week later, nobody can prove what was found or when.
- Findings without owners. An issue is noted, but it is nobody’s task to fix it, so it shows up again at the next visit.
- Results that cannot be compared. If every branch is checked differently, head office cannot tell whether a score of 80 is good or bad.
What it takes to see every branch
Holding many locations to one standard needs four things working together.
One definition of the standard. The checklist has to be written once and used everywhere. It also has to fit the business: a restaurant chain, a retail franchise and a service network check very different things.
Comparable results. When every branch is inspected against the same items, scores become comparable. Putting branches side by side shows where the standard holds and where it slips, and whether a problem is local or chain-wide.
Evidence attached to findings. A finding with a photo and a timestamp settles arguments and makes follow-up concrete.
Follow-up that closes the loop. Every finding should become a task with an owner, tracked until it is resolved. Otherwise inspections only measure problems; they do not fix them.
How Kontrolvar approaches it
Kontrolvar is a web application that covers exactly these four steps. You turn your standard into customisable inspection forms and checklists, inspect branches against them with photo evidence, compare results across branches on a reporting dashboard, and turn findings into corrective tasks. Each inspection also produces a PDF report automatically.
It is designed to be sector-agnostic: the forms are yours to define, so the same tool can model the standard of a café chain or a network of service points.
